Jason had worked with Chris at the law firm of Vinson & Elkins. Over the years, Chris had become a personal, professional, and spiritual mentor to Jason. In fact, apart from Megan, Chris was the only other person present with Jason at Jason’s baptism, and as time went on, Chris and his family became wonderful friends to both Jason and Megan.
When Chris learned Megan was pregnant, he loaned Jason the t-shirt he had worn when both of his daughters (Alexis and Catherine) were born. The t-shirt reads, “It takes a little more to make a Champion,” and Jason wore it proudly in the delivery room.
When Luke was born, Chris, Charlotte (his wife), and Catherine were the only non-family members in the waiting room. (Alexis was sick and did not want to risk giving it to Luke.) As a result, Megan and Jason found themselves repeatedly explaining to family members who Chris and his family were. As they recounted all the Knepps had done for them and for others, they realized Chris’s middle name was the perfect “middle-namesake” for Luke. (Megan and Jason later learned that Arden is the maiden surname of Shakespeare’s mother, an arts community in Delaware, and the name of Joss Whedon’s son. According to some sources, Arden originally meant “Valley of Eagles.”)
